Lubin police were informed by residents of one of the apartment blocks—neighbors of the 19-year-old mother of two—that she had probably left the children alone in the apartment. (The neighbors had heard a child crying.)

When officers arrived at the scene, they knocked for a long time and called through the locked door. No one opened it, and there were no sounds coming from inside. The people who had reported the matter themselves began to doubt whether calling the police had been justified.

As it turned out, it had been. Later, while patrolling the area, the police officers noticed a light in the window of the apartment in question. They tried again to get inside. This time, the door was opened by the 19-year-old, the mother of a five-month-old boy and a two-year-old boy. The apartment was in terrible disorder, and the boys appeared neglected.

The officers changed the children’s diapers and clothes and called an ambulance. The little boys were taken to hospital and examined by a pediatrician. They were then placed in foster care.

The officers found marijuana in the young woman’s apartment. What is more, at the time of her arrest, she herself was under the influence of drugs.

The young woman was detained and placed under police supervision. If it is established that she endangered her two sons by exposing them to the risk of losing their health or lives, she could face up to five years in prison.
