Several rules for shopping safely online:

  • above all, remember always to approach the seller with limited trust
  • never shop online using a computer located in an internet café. This is where confidential data is most likely to be lost. Use only your home computer and keep all correspondence with the seller. If they deceive us, the correspondence will help bring them to justice
  • use only well-known and reputable online portals
  • before buying from an online store, seek opinions about it and check its reliability. You can do this by asking friends or on internet forums. Also pay attention to whether the store provides its address and telephone number. Then, in case of any doubts, we can call them
  • when paying by credit card, pay attention to whether the internet connection is secure and whether the data we send will not be used by unauthorized persons. A closed padlock symbol should appear at the bottom of the page, and the address should contain the letters “https”. It is usually also possible to order the goods with payment on delivery
  • when buying at an online auction, read the comments about the seller. No positive comments, or only a small number of them, should make us especially cautious
  • when receiving an offer by email, do not use the links; access the store’s website by typing its address into the browser window. This way, we will avoid websites impersonating legitimate stores
  • when ordering equipment, ask whether the seller includes original software on discs and an instruction manual
  • when buying a mobile phone, ask about the charger and proof of purchase; stolen phones are sold without a charger and “documentation”
  • if, despite following safety rules, we receive an empty box instead of the ordered product, call the Police immediately. In that case, the saved correspondence and the package sent by the fraudster will constitute evidence of the crime.
