The incident took place on March 24, at around 3:50 p.m., in Pawlikowice (Chojnów municipality). Police officers from the Municipal Police Headquarters’ Traffic Division noticed the driver of a Renault who was not wearing a seat belt. The officers turned the patrol car around and followed the driver.

The man then accelerated sharply. After driving a few metres, the 45-year-old lost control of the vehicle, skidded and ended up in a ditch. When the officers opened the Renault’s door, they immediately detected a strong smell of alcohol. A breathalyser test showed that the fleeing driver had more than 0.6 per mille of alcohol in his system.

The man was injured and taken to hospital. What is more, it emerged that the 45-year-old had four driving bans, including one for life.

He could now face up to five years in prison.
