On March 16, at around 9:50 p.m., officers from the prevention department of the Jelenia Góra police headquarters spotted a man lying in the snow beneath a shop window on 1 Maja Street in Jelenia Góra. The officers determined that he was a 67-year-old homeless man whom they often encountered in one of the abandoned buildings in Jeżów Sudecki. The man was hypothermic; a strong smell of alcohol was clearly coming from him. (The test showed more than 2 per mille).

As the homeless man's life was at risk, the 67-year-old was taken into police custody.
