On Monday, 12 March, from 5:30 to 8:00 a.m., officers from the Traffic Division of the County Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec conducted the “Sober Driver” operation. Its aim was to remove from traffic drivers who had consumed alcohol (or a similarly acting substance) and to reduce the number of road incidents.

Police officers checked 265 drivers – ALL OF THEM WERE SOBER.

The Bolesławiec officers appeal for caution on the road and sober driving. Driving while intoxicated is a crime and poses a real danger to road users. The officers state:

We remind you that anyone driving a vehicle while intoxicated will be banned from driving for a minimum of 3 years. Regardless of the sentence imposed, the court must order a monetary payment of no less than PLN 5,000 in the case of a person committing this offence for the first time, and no less than PLN 10,000 when a person has driven a vehicle while intoxicated again.

The financial penalty for causing an accident while intoxicated is at least PLN 10,000.

For driving while intoxicated and for causing an accident while intoxicated, the court may ban a driver from driving for up to 15 years; the minimum period for which the ban may be imposed is 3 years.

Driving while intoxicated or under the influence of a narcotic substance is punishable by up to 2 years in prison.
