Officers from the Police Station in Zawidów received a report of the theft of 54 bags of eco-pea coal. (Coal worth more than PLN 1,500 was stolen from a sales outlet in Zawidów. It was established that each bag weighed approximately 27 kg, so the perpetrators took a total of 1,458 kg of coal).
The perpetrators—a 20-year-old from Zawidów and a 25-year-old from Sulików Municipality—were arrested. They were placed in police custody.
Both suspects are well known to criminal investigators from Zgorzelec. The detainees confessed both to stealing the coal and to breaking into a locomotive's fuel tank and stealing 200 litres of fuel.
Moreover, officers apprehended a fence who had bought the stolen coal. The thieves could now face up to 10 years in prison, while the fence could be sent behind bars for as long as five years.
