Officers from the Economic Crime Unit of the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters detained a resident of Bolesławiec County suspected of possessing and selling tobacco without Polish excise-duty markings.

While conducting operational activities, police officers confirmed their earlier findings: in a shop selling tobacco products, tobacco and cigarettes from an illegal source could be bought more cheaply.

“The employee of the retail outlet offered not only goods displayed on the shelves, but also had ‘promotional’ products for sale,” say officers from Bolesławiec. After inspecting the shop, police officers seized more than 2.5 kg of tobacco and 29 packs of cigarettes without Polish excise-duty markings. Officers are investigating where the seized goods came from. (The losses to the State Treasury are estimated at nearly PLN 2,000.)

The 69-year-old could now face up to three years in prison.
