Officers from the Legnica traffic police noticed vehicles that had been stuck for several minutes at the European Union Roundabout. The officers immediately intervened.
As it turned out, the roundabout was blocked by oversized vehicles transporting wind turbine components from Głogów to Germany. Each of the vehicles weighed more than 70 tonnes, was 42 metres long and 5.5 metres wide. Neither the drivers nor the escort vehicles’ pilots had a permit to operate vehicles of this type.
What is more, the pilots were not authorised to direct road traffic, and one of the vehicles lacked a valid technical inspection. (That was not all—in such a case there should have been six pilots; there were… two).
The pilots were fined and prohibited from continuing their journey. Proceedings have been initiated against the carrier, who could face a fine of several thousand zlotys.
