The incident occurred on New Year's Day, at around 4:00 a.m. In Lubin's Przylesie estate, the officers' attention was drawn to the driver of a Peugeot. He was clearly having difficulty controlling the vehicle. Suspecting that the man might be drunk, the officers gave him a clear signal to stop. However, he did not do so; on the contrary, he accelerated and began to flee. The police gave chase.

The fugitive turned onto the road towards Legnica. Before Chróstnik, he failed to notice a left turn and, smashing through the barriers, drove straight on. There, the Peugeot was successfully immobilised on the sandy section of the newly constructed S3 road.

The young man still tried to escape on foot. Without success. He was detained shortly afterwards.

It turned out that the 27-year-old resident of Lubin Municipality had fled because he was drunk. He had nearly 2 per mille of alcohol in his system. What is more, he did not have a driving licence.

The 27-year-old now faces up to five years in prison.
