On December 14, officers from the Zgorzelec police headquarters received a call concerning one of the localities in Zgorzelec Municipality. A child had been scalded. At the scene, police determined that the parents of the not-quite-1.5-year-old boy had left an electric kettle filled with boiling water on a table in the kitchen.
While his parents were away, the boy entered the kitchen and, pulling on the electrical cord, brought the kettle of boiling water down onto himself. The boy suffered first- and second-degree burns covering approximately 10% of his body. The child was immediately transported to a specialist hospital, where he received medical assistance. The boy’s parents were sober.
Police are currently clarifying the exact circumstances of the incident. “It is the period before Christmas, and we can be distracted; sometimes a moment of inattention is enough for tragedy to occur,” say officers from Zgorzelec. “Let us be even more careful than usual.”
