A 24-year-old man entered one of the gold-buying outlets in Legnica. He spoke briefly with the sales assistant, then took the jewellery arranged on a jeweller’s tray and ran out of the premises. However, he did not enjoy his freedom for long, as two students set off in pursuit of him, reacting without hesitation to the outlet employee’s cry: “Help, thief!”

The students caught the thief. He first offered them the jewellery in exchange for letting him go, but they ignored him.

When one of the students took out his phone to call the police, the thief pulled out a knife and began waving it. The student calmly knocked the weapon out of the criminal’s hand.

To prevent the apprehended man from pulling another stunt, the students asked a passer-by to call the police. Officers from the Prevention Department of the Municipal Police Headquarters took over custody of the suspect. He is a recidivist well known to the officers. The man was first taken to police custody and then remanded in custody for three months.

“The 19-year-old and his colleague, who is two years older, displayed tremendous courage and immediately responded to the call for help to another person. They are residents of Lwówek County. The attitude of both witnesses deserves recognition and praise,” said Legnica officers.
