Every year, a significant number of deaths caused by hypothermia are recorded. Frequent drops in temperature during the autumn and winter period pose a potential threat to the lives and health of homeless, lonely and elderly people. During this period, the risk of loss of life also concerns intoxicated people who are outdoors or in abandoned and unheated premises.
“The activities carried out as part of the Winter Operation 2017/2018 include, among other things, ongoing monitoring and checking of places where homeless people may stay. We will also pay particular attention to people under the influence of alcohol in circumstances that threaten their lives. All of this is done in cooperation with other services and institutions,” say officers from the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec.
Officers from Bolesławiec also appeal to all residents of our county to inform the police and other services about every person they notice who, under the influence of alcohol—or in a similar situation—is sitting at a bus stop or in a park. “Let’s not pass such people by indifferently. All it takes is for us to react and notify the relevant services,” the police officers add. “Let’s remember that someone’s life may depend on our commitment and help. Sometimes one phone call is enough.”
