Recently, on the Facebook profile of Istotne.pl, we reported that firefighters from OSP Czerwona Woda had been robbed. Now firefighters from OSP Jagodzin (Zgorzelec County) have been robbed. It is difficult to find a suitable, non-vulgar term to describe such behavior. Let us simply say that robbing people who may potentially save the lives of those who robbed them as well is the height of stupidity and rudeness... Words fail us.
The firefighters from Jagodzin sent an email to the Istotne.pl editorial office asking for media support. Below, we present the contents of the email:
Dear thieves, shame on you!
On October 20, 2017, at night, at around 3:00 a.m., a brazen break-in occurred at our fire station building. The thieves forced open the doors to the social room and locker room in our station, and then opened the garage doors from inside. Our station was thoroughly searched and ransacked by the thieves. Their first loot consisted of mobile radio units from our vehicles (the Star 266 fire engine and the Polonez Operations Vehicle) as well as one handheld radio. The DSP-52L selective alarm system, which we had recently purchased and installed, is also out of order because a radio was stolen from it as well. A helmet with a flashlight also disappeared. The thieves left us with seriously damaged doors that are unfit for any use or repair. The losses could have been even greater, as the thieves had prepared further items for removal, including a hydraulic power unit with hydraulic tools. However, thanks to the vigilance of a neighbor living next to the station, the thieves were frightened away and most likely drove off toward Ruszów. We ask for help in publicizing the situation that has befallen us.
The following items were stolen:
- Motorola DM1400 mobile radio
- Motorola GM360 mobile radio
- Motorola GM300 mobile radio
- Motorola GP360 handheld radio
- Calisia Vulcan helmet with Iskra flashlight
- Charger for Motorola GP360 radio
The stolen equipment alone was worth approximately PLN 6,000. In addition, there are the costs of repairing the damaged doors and restoring the selective alarm system to working order. The costs will probably exceed the financial capabilities of our unit. Our operational readiness has been significantly reduced, but there is also fear of further break-ins at our unsecured station, which is known to thieves. We are another unit in the Municipality of Węgliniec to have been robbed within a short period of time. We are deeply saddened because we worked for years to obtain this equipment. Attached are photographs of the damage and losses caused by the burglars.
