The incident occurred overnight from September 16 to 17. At around 2:20 a.m., the duty officer at the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica received a report concerning the disappearance of a 62-year-old man who had attended a company event in one of the localities in the county. The man was believed to have gone off in an unknown direction. He called his wife, saying that he did not know where he was. Then contact with him was lost.
While police officers were searching for the 62-year-old, they heard strange sounds coming from a private property. They were so alarming that the officers decided to climb over the fence. They quickly realized that the sounds were coming from a marshy pond overgrown with dense reeds. There, the officers noticed a hand and a head emerging from the water. The man was drowning and, with the last of his strength, was keeping himself afloat in the marshy pond.
The police officers pulled the drowning man out. He was so exhausted that he could not remain standing. The officers provided him with first aid and waited for the ambulance to arrive.
The rescued man was a 67-year-old resident of Legnica. The missing 62-year-old was found several hours later, safe and unharmed.
