The incident took place on the night of 21 June 2017 in Dobrzyce (Greater Poland Voivodeship). The man wanted under an arrest warrant—issued by the Wrocław prosecutor’s office—is 48-year-old Ryszard Wróbel from Wrocław County (Januszkowice, Długołęka commune).

After breaking into and stealing from a petrol station in Dobrzyce, Wróbel fled the scene of the crime together with another person. Both suspects were spotted near Milicz by a police patrol, which attempted to detain them. Despite the visual and audible signals, the perpetrators failed to stop for inspection and attempted to flee in a stolen Skoda Octavia.

They abandoned the car on one of the roads in a forest complex and continued their escape on foot. One of the men fired a firearm at the officers, injuring one of them in the neck. The second officer used his service weapon against the attacker, injuring him in the lower part of his body. The man died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The second suspect—Ryszard Wróbel—managed to escape into the forest. His whereabouts have still not been established. Anyone with information about where the suspect is staying is asked to contact the police. The Lower Silesian Voivodeship Police Commander in Wrocław has offered a PLN 10,000 reward for information leading to the whereabouts of the wanted man.
