The incident occurred on August 12, at around 6 p.m., on Kazimierza Wielkiego Street in Legnica. Traffic police stopped the driver of a Renault Mégane for a roadside inspection. The officers detected the smell of alcohol from the 35-year-old man, so they tested him with a breathalyser. He had nearly 0.5 per mille of alcohol in his exhaled air.

A 32-year-old woman and two children—a five-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy—were also travelling in the car. The officers noticed the adult passenger behaving irrationally. The mother of the two small children sitting in the back was completely drunk. The test showed more than 2 per mille.

The children were handed over to their family. Their parents, who were under the influence of alcohol, were taken to the police station.

The 32-year-old mother now faces up to five years in prison for exposing the children to a risk of loss of life or health. The father lost his driving licence. He may be detained or fined up to PLN 5,000. He also faces a driving ban of up to three years.
