The most common causes of road accidents in Bolesławiec County—besides failing to yield the right of way—are driving too fast for the road conditions and improper manoeuvres when avoiding, passing and overtaking. On Wednesday, 2 August, several road incidents occurred. One had tragic consequences. In Żeliszów, the driver of a Volkswagen Golf, a resident of Bolesławiec County, was driving too fast; on a bend in the road, he lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the opposite lane and collided with a VW minibus. The 64-year-old Golf driver died at the scene.
In 2016, 33,664 road incidents were recorded in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, including 2,324 accidents in which 226 people died. Since the beginning of the year, there have already been 8 fatal road incidents in our county. These figures are frightening!
Police appeal for common sense and caution on the road. Drivers often think they can control their vehicles in any conditions. Nothing could be further from the truth. We must always remember that the higher the speed, the longer the braking distance and the more serious the consequences in the event of a road incident. We should pay attention to the conditions on the road and comply with all road signs and signals.
Of course, drunk drivers are also a direct threat. Removing them from the roads is a priority for the police.
“Let us remember that it only takes a moment of inattention to put ourselves or other road users at risk of losing their lives or health. By strictly obeying the regulations, we increase our chances of a safe journey and returning home safely,” says Senior Sergeant Marta Kubiak, press spokesperson for the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters.
