Legnica police officers received information from Border Guard officers about a pursuit of a VW Transporter that had failed to stop for inspection in a neighboring country. The pursuit, initiated in Germany, continued in Poland.
After crossing the Polish border at Olszyna, the vehicle sped toward Wrocław at high speed. As Legnica police officers were entering the A4 to join the pursuit, they were nearly rammed by the fleeing driver.
Ignoring traffic regulations, the fleeing driver damaged several vehicles. At one point, the man tried to lose the police pursuit. He attempted to make a sudden turn onto the A4 exit to Chojnów, but then lost control of the vehicle and hit the barriers.
He then got out of the vehicle and began fleeing on foot. He was arrested after several dozen meters.
The fugitive turned out to be a 33-year-old resident of Legnica. The VW he had been driving while fleeing the officers had been stolen in Germany during the night.
The suspect behaved irrationally, so he was tested with a drug detector. It turned out that he had been driving the van under the influence of methamphetamine (piko).
The court remanded the 33-year-old in custody for three months.
