On June 26, the duty officer at the County Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec received a report of the theft of four bicycles. At the scene, it turned out that the thief had not yet managed to take the bicycles away. He had pulled them out of the basement and left them on the lawn by the property.

While a police investigator was carrying out official duties, his attention was drawn to a man standing in front of the building where the theft had occurred. He turned out to be a 33-year-old resident of Zgorzelec municipality, who was unable to sensibly explain to the officer what he was doing on the property.

The officer called in the criminal investigators. The 33-year-old was arrested.

It turned out that the suspect had 11 thefts and burglaries to his name. His haul included mountain bikes, benches, chairs and garden umbrellas, metal fence sections, power tools, as well as cars. Preliminary findings indicate that the losses caused by the 33-year-old's criminal activity amount to approximately PLN 40,000.

The burglar now faces up to 10 years in prison.
