Thick clouds of smoke were coming from an apartment near the District Police Headquarters in Lubin—that was the information received by the deputy duty officer of the District Police Headquarters. There was no time to call for patrols. The police officer went to the indicated building and, together with a traffic officer, led the man out of the smoke-filled apartment before the fire brigade arrived.

The police officers first forced open the entrance door. They then began banging on the door of the apartment where the fire had broken out. No one answered. Only when they started forcing open the door to the premises did the man living there open it. He was in shock.

The officers led the injured man out of the building. (At the same time, officers from the Prevention Department checked whether anyone remained in the smoke-filled apartment.)

When the rescued man recovered, he thanked the police officers for their quick response. He explained that he had returned home from a night shift and wanted to heat up some food, but fatigue got the better of him and he fell asleep.
