The incident occurred on Monday, May 29. At around noon, police officers received information that intoxicated parents were caring for an infant in one of the apartments on Staszica Street in Zgorzelec. The officers notified MOPS and the emergency medical services.

At the scene, the police found a 45-year-old woman, the mother of the 14-day-old infant, asleep at the table, and the 44-year-old father lying on the floor. The baby’s parents were completely drunk. The man had a blood alcohol level of 3 per mille, while the woman’s was 2.2 per mille.

Staff from the emergency care service took care of the child. If it is determined that the parents’ irresponsible behavior endangered the boy’s life or health, they could face up to five years in prison. The family court will also handle the case and decide the child’s fate.
