Officers from the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec and the Customs Office in Zgorzelec inspected three gaming parlours in Bolesławiec and seized 16 machines offering games of chance for commercial purposes. The value of the seized property is more than PLN 200,000.

These types of inspections will now become increasingly frequent. Because, as we read on the tvn24bis.pl website, an amendment to the Gambling Act entered into force on 1 April 2017. The new regulations introduced significant legal changes concerning gambling. One of the most important changes is granting Totalizator Sportowy exclusive rights to organise gambling on the internet (except betting) and games on machines (except in casinos).

Update

The machines were handed over to customs service officers, who will conduct further proceedings in the case.

Since 1 April, private entities may not organise games on machines outside casinos. Illegal possession of machines carries fiscal criminal liability. Organising gambling is punishable by up to three years in prison and a heavy fine.
