At the end of April, police officers from Zgorzelec County began receiving reports of brass and metal elements being stolen from graves at the cemetery in Zawidów. Officers from the town checked people previously recorded for similar offenses and inspected scrap-metal collection points. These efforts produced results: the officers picked up the perpetrators’ trail. They turned out to be a 20-year-old resident of Zawidów and a 31-year-old resident of Zgorzelec. Both were taken into police custody.

It was established that the pair had robbed six graves. In addition, officers proved that the couple had committed a burglary at an outbuilding, from which the thieves took, among other things, a mountain bike, aluminum rims and power tools.

The officers recovered some of the stolen property. The 20-year-old man and the 31-year-old woman face up to 10 years in prison.
