The incident took place during the night of 28–29 April. Unknown perpetrators broke into the Orthodox church in Patoka (Gromadka Municipality). As reported on the cerkiew.net.pl website, the thieves entered the church through a sacristy window after breaking out the grille installed there. Among the items stolen from the church were two mass chalices, two patens, an amplifier and a microphone, a gilded hand cross lying on the altar, and a small amount of money. The thieves also took a commemorative bronze plaque marking the 1,000th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus'-Ukraine. (The Blessed Sacrament kept in the tabernacle was not desecrated.)
The police are searching for those responsible for the theft. They face up to 10 years in prison. The parish Orthodox church in Patoka was built thanks to the generosity and work of local parishioners. More information is available on the website of the Wrocław-Gdańsk Eparchy.
