Last Sunday, during the night, the duty officer at the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec received a telephone report from a citizen that an unknown man was attempting to break into a VW vehicle on one of the housing estates in Gromadka municipality. Officers from the Police Station in Kruszyn immediately went to the scene. The duty officer remained in contact with the reporting person throughout and continuously passed all information to the officers. At one point, it became known that the man was leaving the scene, so the police acted decisively and swiftly. Moments later, the perpetrator was in their hands.

It turned out that the 22-year-old had first tugged at the car door handle, trying to get inside, and then, when he noticed that his efforts were unsuccessful, picked up a brick and damaged the vehicle. This was not the only offense he committed at that place and time. He entered the vehicle through the smashed window. Fortunately, there were no valuable items inside. At the time of his arrest, a strong smell of alcohol was detectable on the man’s breath.

The perpetrator was taken to the Bolesławiec police unit and then placed in police custody. The officers charged him with attempted burglary and property damage. He admitted to committing the offense. He will now face criminal proceedings before the court. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
