On April 8, Chojnów police detained a 26-year-old resident of the town who, while driving an Audi, damaged five vehicles and then rolled the car onto its roof. Witnesses helped the driver and passenger get out of the vehicle.

The police officers who arrived at the scene detected a strong smell of alcohol from the Chojnów resident behind the wheel. The man slurred his speech and walked unsteadily. It turned out that he had nearly 2.3 per mille of alcohol in his system; the passenger blew 0.3 per mille less. Both the driver and the passenger were taken into police custody.

Another incident occurred that same day, this time involving a woman from Legnica. The Audi driver failed to adjust her speed to the road conditions and rear-ended an Opel. As a result of the impact, the driver of the latter entered the opposite lane and collided with a Volvo.

The 20-year-old Opel passenger was seriously injured and taken to hospital. At the time of her arrest, the woman responsible for the accident had nearly 1.5 per mille of alcohol in her system.

The 26-year-old man now faces up to two years in prison, while the 26-year-old woman could face up to 4.5 years of imprisonment.
