The University of the Third Age in Bolesławiec, affiliated with the Wrocław University of Economics – the Faculty of Economics, Management and Tourism in Jelenia Góra, was established on 13 October 2007. From the very beginning, its spiritus movens has been Wiesława Olczyk. Under her leadership, the University has become a well-known and respected institution and has much to offer seniors. The cultural activity of its students is above average, and the University has also established many contacts with other senior centres.
The jubilee celebrations were attended, among others, by: the Rector’s plenipotentiary at the Wrocław University of Economics, Dr Maja Jedlińska; Vice-Dean Dr hab. Agnieszka Skowrońska; Professor Dr hab. Bogusław Fiedor; Dr hab. Zofia Hasińska; Vice-Dean Dr ha. Marek Walesiak; Vice-Dean for Tourism at the Faculty of Economics and Management in Jelenia Góra, Dr hab. Elżbieta Sobczak; and Dr hab. Ryszard Brol.
The main ceremony took place on the stage of the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre – International Ceramics Centre, which was also a co-organiser of the event together with the Urban Municipality of Bolesławiec.
The special guest of the event was Professor Jan Miodek, whose family has been connected with our city for almost half a century. The distinguished linguist delivered a lecture on changes in the names of localities in Lower Silesia after the Second World War. During the engaging lecture, we learned how Poles creatively and thoughtfully renamed German cities after 1945.
Participants and invited guests could watch performances specially prepared for the occasion, including a dance performance by the students, a short theatrical scene and a choir performance led at the University of the Third Age by Dorota Straburzyńska. The BOK-MCC “Bolesławiec” Song and Dance Ensemble (under the supervision of Agnieszka Podłaszczyk) and class 2b of Irena Bartosz from Primary School No. 1 also performed on stage.
Our editorial team extends its warmest wishes on the occasion of the anniversary and thanks the University for ten years of cooperation.
