Police officers and Railway Protection Guard officers detained two men, aged 30 and 32, and a 32-year-old woman. The entire trio is suspected of stealing 25 metres of telecommunications cable from the Jelenia Góra–Sobieszów railway line. The trio caused losses estimated at nearly PLN 6,000.

The suspects were detained at one of Jelenia Góra’s scrap-metal collection points. It turned out that the 32-year-old had sold 3.5 kilograms of burned copper wires there the previous day. On the day of their detention—this time together with his younger associate—he also brought burned copper and lead wires to the collection point. Meanwhile, in the backpack carried by the woman, officers found hacksaw blades, hammers and more wires.

The detainees were placed in police custody. They face up to 8 years in prison.
