– Every year, together with residents, we decide which investments to carry out in each locality. The shelters, bread oven and information boards were built not only from the municipal budget, but primarily with funds from the village fund. Unfortunately, we have recorded an increase in acts of vandalism in recent months – municipal officials say.
Unknown perpetrators destroyed the bread oven that was built at the end of last year in Kraśnik Dolny – the Village of Six Grains. It had not even been used; the first bread was supposed to be baked in it in the spring. Shelters next to playgrounds and barbecue areas are also regularly damaged. Vandals also target all kinds of security measures intended to prevent entry into selected disused facilities in our municipality, such as the tower at the cemetery in Kraśnik Dolny or Perła Żeliszowa. They also vent their excess energy on bus shelters, smashing windows and bending or even breaking off metal parts.
Officials add: – All investments carried out by the Municipal Office are financed from the municipal budget. This means that they are paid for with our residents’ money. The costs of all repairs – whether of bus shelters, park benches or rubbish bins – are therefore covered by our residents. These funds could instead be allocated to other purposes, such as road repairs.
– The same applies to dumping rubbish in places not intended for this purpose – they continue. – Every year, the funds allocated to clearing illegal dumps could be used for environmental education. Waste is routinely taken to nearby forests or thrown into roadside ditches, even though residents of our municipality can take any amount of waste to the Selective Municipal Waste Collection Point in Łąka.
Municipal officials appeal to residents to respond when they witness vandalism, littering or damage to property. Mobile cameras are installed in places where such incidents occur. Their locations are changed regularly. Last year, the identities of people illegally dumping waste were established in several cases – they were summoned and cleaned up the area themselves.
The municipality asks residents for help: – If you witness littering or acts of vandalism, please inform the police immediately (Police Station in Kruszyn – tel. 75 732 30 73).
For our part, we remind you that if the value of the damage exceeds PLN 500, the vandal is liable for a criminal offence punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
