The incident occurred on March 17 in the afternoon. The van driver, a 34-year-old from Głogów, failed to stop for a traffic inspection in Hradek nad Nisou, Czech Republic. On the contrary—he accelerated and began fleeing toward the border with Poland. Czech police officers gave chase.

The driver crossed the border at Porajów and continued his escape. The Czech officers, still pursuing the fugitive, notified police officers from Zgorzelec.

While fleeing, the 34-year-old destroyed a fuel dispenser at a station in Porajów. Then, in an attempt to prevent the officers from continuing the pursuit, he caused a collision with a Czech police car.

A moment later, officers from the Nysa group and police officers from Bogatynia joined the pursuit. The driver was arrested after more than 15 kilometres, when he attempted to drive across the mine railway tracks in Bogatynia.

It turned out that the man's attempt to flee was not accidental: the 34-year-old was travelling in a van that had been stolen in Germany the previous night. The vehicle was worth PLN 107,000.

What's more, the vehicle contained two other two-wheeled vehicles: a motorcycle and a bicycle worth a total of PLN 16,500. They had also been stolen.

Moreover, the suspect had methamphetamine in his possession. At the request of the police and the prosecutor's office, the man was remanded in custody for three months. He could now face up to 10 years behind bars.
