The incident occurred on February 21 on one of the streets in Zgorzelec. According to the officers’ preliminary findings, a 79-year-old man walking on the sidewalk was hit by the driver of a Fiat Cinquecento, who fled the scene without helping the injured man. The pedestrian was taken to hospital.
Police reached witnesses to the accident and gathered information that led them to a 30-year-old resident of Pieńsk Municipality. It turned out that he was the one who hit the elderly man. The perpetrator was arrested. He has already been charged with causing an accident and failing to help the pedestrian.
The suspect admitted his guilt. He could now face up to 4.5 years in prison.
