On Saturday, 7 January, at 11:40 a.m., a 29-year-old man who wanted to sign in for police supervision reported to the duty officer at the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica. The duty officer smelled alcohol on the 29-year-old and informed him that he should report to the police station sober.
When the man left the building, the duty officer decided to check whether the 29-year-old had arrived at the police station by car. The officer’s police instinct did not let him down. Several hundred metres from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica, the man got into a Volkswagen vehicle—on the driver’s side—and drove away towards Nowodworska Street.
Thanks to the duty officer’s quick reaction, the reckless driver was stopped shortly afterwards. The 29-year-old man had nearly 1.5‰ of alcohol in his system. He now faces up to two years in prison and losing his driving licence.
