The incident occurred on 17 December, a few minutes before midnight, in the centre of Węgliniec. A 27-year-old man was attacked and struck on the head with a baseball bat by an assailant unknown to him. The injured man was found by a passer-by, who notified the police and emergency services. The 27-year-old was in serious condition.
Police officers from Pieńsk detained three people suspected of being connected with the crime: two women from Wykroty (Nowogrodziec commune) and a 51-year-old resident of Węgliniec. The young women from Bolesławiec County (aged 18 and 21) will face charges of inciting the commission of a crime. The man, meanwhile, was charged with causing serious bodily harm to the 27-year-old. At the prosecutor’s request, he was placed in temporary custody. He could face up to 10 years in prison.
