The Jawor District Prosecutor’s Office has filed an indictment with the local District Court against 25-year-old Bartłomiej R., accusing him of causing a road accident. The incident occurred on 29 June on Mickiewicz Street in Jawor (a national road). The accused, who was under the influence of amphetamine and methamphetamine, caused a road accident. Without a driving licence, he sped in a BMW at approximately 110 km/h in a built-up area. The 25-year-old overtook another vehicle near a marked pedestrian crossing, crossing a double solid line. The result? His BMW collided head-on with a Ford Fiesta being driven properly. As a result of the collision, the BMW hit a tree. The car’s passenger, Adam H., an acquaintance of the accused, suffered serious injuries. What is more, while the injured man was trapped in the car, R. fled the scene on foot.
Witnesses to the incident set off in pursuit of the perpetrator. The man was detained by a police officer who was on leave. R. was taken to a hospital in Legnica. (Police officers took him there for blood tests.) However, the accused escaped from the facility and... was detained again.
At the prosecutor’s request, the Jawor District Court ordered Bartłomiej R.’s temporary detention, which was subsequently extended. The injured Adam H. was treated in a hospital in Wrocław; he was kept in a medically induced coma for several days.
Bartłomiej R. pleaded guilty to the offence with which he was charged. Nevertheless, he refused to give an explanation. He denied only that he had fled the scene of the accident. The accused had already been convicted many times, including for offences against life and health, against property and involving violence. He had also served time in prison.
