Police officers from Bogatynia, together with customs officers from the Mobile Group in Zgorzelec, detained a 21-year-old man who was riding a bicycle on one of Bogatynia’s streets. During a conversation with the officers, the cyclist behaved nervously. The police decided to check the contents of his backpack.
It turned out that the 21-year-old was carrying 4 kilograms of cut tobacco without Polish excise-duty markings. In the detainee’s garage, they found another 21 kilograms of tobacco and nearly 8,000 illegal cigarettes of various brands.
It was estimated that the State Treasury could have lost more than PLN 21,000. The 21-year-old has already been charged. He now faces a high fine and the loss of the illegal goods.
