Mrs Wioletta, who serves in the Department for Combating Property Crime of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica and is currently on maternity leave, was walking through the city centre with her husband and daughter. When she reached the area near Galeria Gwarna, she heard a woman crying loudly and shouting that she had just been robbed.
The policewoman noticed the fleeing thief and instinctively gave chase, recovering the stolen property as a result. The policewoman’s husband, who also works at the Legnica headquarters, calmed the victim and notified the duty officer about the incident.
It turned out that the pickpocket had not managed to steal anything from the wallet, even though it contained documents, money and payment cards.
After his arrest, the 21-year-old resident of Legnica was charged with six offences related to thefts and burglaries. He faces up to 10 years in prison. The Municipal Police Chief in Legnica honoured the policewoman for her exemplary conduct.
