An officer from the District Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec, while off duty, detained a man who was riding a moped while under the influence of alcohol. The suspect is a 52-year-old resident of Pieńsk. He was detained near a shop. The officer noticed that the rider walked unsteadily as he got off the scooter. The man did his shopping and wanted to drive on. The police officer then prevented him from continuing to drive.
A patrol called to the scene checked the man's sobriety. It turned out that the 52-year-old resident of Pieńsk had been riding the moped with nearly 2 per mille of alcohol in his system. Moreover, it also emerged that this was not the first time the man had got behind the wheel while drunk. The court had imposed a ban on his driving motor vehicles. The detainee now faces a penalty of up to five years in prison.
