On 26 January, the driver of a Scania heavy goods vehicle was travelling to Zgorzelec on the A-4 motorway. Near Bolesławiec, police officers from the provincial headquarters—who had become suspicious about the way the Scania driver was driving—gave him a clear signal to stop. The man initially slowed down and pulled into a parking area. But moments later, in order to avoid the roadside check, he accelerated and began fleeing towards Olszyna.
The officers immediately began pursuing him. Only after 8 kilometres did the driver realise that he had no chance and stop. It turned out that the truck was being driven by a 43-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County. He was drunk. A test showed more than 1.2 per mille of alcohol in his system. The detained man was taken into police custody.
Driving under the influence carries a penalty of up to 2 years in prison.
