At around 1:00 p.m., the duty officer at the Legnica police headquarters received a report of a domestic dispute in one of the towns near Legnica. A woman reported that her husband was drunk and aggressive. Police officers went to the scene. The aggressive man was taken to a sobering-up centre.

Several hours later, the duty officer received information that a drinking session was taking place at the same address in the same town near Legnica. Since two small children were in the apartment, community police officers were immediately dispatched to the scene. The police officers, who entered the apartment together with employees of the Municipal Social Welfare Centre, found three adults inside. They were all drinking alcohol, while the two small girls, aged 3 years and 16 months, were left unattended.

The children's mother claimed that she was sober, insulted the police officers and even struck one of them. She was detained. A test showed that she had over 2 per mille of alcohol in her system. The woman was taken into police custody.

The children were taken by ambulance to a hospital in Legnica. They did not suffer any more serious injuries. If it is established that through her conduct the woman exposed her own children to an immediate risk of loss of life, she may face up to 5 years in prison. The police will also notify the Family Court, which will decide whether the parents will continue to care for the girls.
