On 23 July, we warned in these pages about Sosnowsky’s hogweed, which produces a burning substance that can cause inflammation of the skin and mucous membranes, blisters and difficult-to-heal wounds. Its burning effect intensifies in sunny weather, high temperatures and high humidity. Children and people suffering from allergies are particularly susceptible. Symptoms of injuries may appear up to 24–48 hours after direct or indirect contact with hogweed.
