The first incident involving the theft of fuel (250 litres) from one of Legnica’s stations took place at the beginning of June. Surveillance cameras recorded two suspects at the time. Then, at another fuel station, a van pulled up. Its passengers filled a 1,000-litre container with, as it later turned out, 990 litres of fuel and then drove away without paying.
The police continued collecting information and evidence that could help identify and apprehend those responsible for the crimes. The end of June proved crucial, when men suspected of the theft—this time of 770 litres of diesel fuel—crashed the same van while fleeing after a pursuit and were detained by Legnica officers. The vehicle had stolen registration plates fitted.
The suspects in the fuel thefts turned out to be three residents of Lubin, aged between 19 and 27, and a 25-year-old resident of Legnica. The men face up to 5 years in prison for the theft.
