LGDs are social partners selected through a competition who proposed the best Local Development Strategies for their regions. They will now decide how the funds under the EU Leader program will be allocated. Its main objectives are to build the social capital of rural areas and small towns by giving local communities the opportunity to manage EU funds, and to create new jobs.

Local community activists will decide which investments in their regions should be carried out. The funds may be allocated, among other things, to developing entrepreneurship, building sports, cultural or tourism infrastructure, and renovating existing infrastructure.

Individuals, businesses, associations, foundations and municipalities may apply for project funding. Project application deadlines will be announced separately by each Local Action Group, but they may begin as early as this summer. “The previous budget perspective already showed how much we need such a program,” Marshal Cezary Przybylski said at the conference. “Transferring as much initiative and money as possible to the lowest local level is necessary, because this is where problems and the best ideas for solving them can be seen most clearly.”

16 partners in the region

Representatives of 15 of the 16 selected Local Action Groups signed agreements at the Marshal’s Office on May 17. The amount of funding obtained by each LAG depends on the number of residents living in its area. The largest groups will have more than PLN 24 million at their disposal.
