After information was published about the construction of another section of the bicycle path in Gromadka municipality, Piotr Nowicki, Plenipotentiary of the Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship for the Development of Cycling and Head of the Cycling Development Department at UMWD, wrote to us and presented the broader context of the entire undertaking. As he explained, the investment currently under way is part of a much larger project aimed at creating a convenient bicycle connection between Bolesławiec and Lubin:

The bicycle route section currently being built by the municipality along the decommissioned railway line 314 is ultimately to connect Bolesławiec with Lubin.

He added:

The section from Chościszowice almost to Trzebień has already been completed. The rural Bolesławiec municipality must now deal with the process of taking over the plots of land from PKP SA Nieruchomości, Wrocław branch (the procedures are under way), and will build a connector through Trzebień to the border with Gromadka municipality.

Design work is also under way so that from the station in Modła it will be possible to continue to the border with Chocianów municipality, which has extended the bicycle route through the forest, along a firebreak, to the border with Gromadka municipality.

How will it be possible to continue the journey?

The plenipotentiary: – From Chocianów to Lubin, we can already travel along a completed section of the Copper Route, one of the main bicycle routes in Lower Silesia included in the Lower Silesian Cycling Route.

And in the other direction?

Piotr Nowicki: – Travelling from Gromadka to Bolesławiec, we can continue to Jurków, going to Raciborowice along a bicycle route built years ago. As soon as the municipalities complete construction of the connector to Nowa Wieś Grodziska. Then a bicycle trip will be possible all the way to Złotoryja, where trains operated by Koleje Dolnośląskie are expected to arrive in the near future (this requires completion of the renovation of the line from Legnica by PKP PLK S.A.).

And he sums up:

We can call the section in Gromadka a connector between the Copper Route (running through Chocianów) and the Bóbr Valley Route (running through Bolesławiec, Trzebień and farther north, toward Lubusz Voivodeship).

We will certainly return to this topic.
