Police officers from the Traffic Department of the County Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec stopped a van towing a trailer for inspection. After checking the documents and the vehicle, it turned out that the cargo trailer had a registration plate belonging to another car trailer. Moreover, it was established that the trailer had been stolen in April in Germany.
The van's passenger told the officers that he was the owner of the trailer and that he had bought it in Germany two weeks earlier at a very attractive price. However, he admitted that he had no documents confirming the legality of the purchase.
The 41-year-old resident of Lubusz Voivodeship was charged with handling stolen goods. Meanwhile, the 27-year-old van driver was fined PLN 1,000 because he did not have a licence to drive a vehicle with a trailer.
The van was technically defective, so the officers also confiscated its registration certificate.
The cargo trailer recovered by the police, worth PLN 15,000, will now be handed over to its owner. The fence may face up to five years in prison.
