On March 31, at around 4:20 a.m., the duty officer at the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra was notified by security staff of a suspected break-in at one of the city's banks.
Police officers who arrived at the scene confirmed that a break-in had taken place, although the burglar had not managed to reach the vault containing the cash. When the perpetrator realized that uniformed officers had entered the building, he jumped out of a window. The officers pursued him. A few streets away, they found him. He was hiding... under a car. The bank estimated its losses at PLN 30,000.
The 37-year-old was detained in police custody. It is possible that he is responsible for other break-ins. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
