A few figures: in 2015, 1,927 cases were submitted to the Bolesławiec District Prosecutor’s Office, and 1,381 investigations were opened. Indictments were filed with the courts against 756 people. A total of 845 people were tried in the Bolesławiec District Court, and 747 were convicted. Four people were acquitted. – That is a very small number – the district prosecutor Ewa Łomnicka commented. – This results from the fact that indictments and cases are sent to the courts, after the relevant evidence has been collected, on sound grounds.
Last year, investigators requested the pre-trial detention of 56 people. There were 25 robberies (three involving a dangerous tool), 3 murders, and 26 fights and assaults. The prosecutor’s office also handled 89 cases involving bodily injury or causing a health disorder lasting more than seven days.
– Unfortunately, crime related to credit and internet fraud remains at a very high level – said the head of the Bolesławiec prosecutor’s office. – There are still very many drunk drivers on our roads; 239 cases were recorded. I have to say that there is no remedy for this. The regulations are becoming increasingly strict, but this still has no effect.
E. Łomnicka also spoke about drug-related crime: – I would like to appeal to the police chief. This service records many cases of this kind, but they usually concern very small quantities of drugs. People are arrested who have one small bag, less than a gram. However, cases involving drug dealers do not reach the prosecutor’s office – I do not know why. The point is to catch dealers, not those who buy intoxicants for their own use. Because this will not combat anything. It seems to me that this is not the way.
