Today in central Bolesławiec, a 35-year-old attacker assaulted a seven-year-old. As we have learned, he had earlier tried to grab another child. When that failed, he grabbed the boy mentioned above. The attacker held the seven-year-old tightly and refused to let go.

The first person to react to the incident was 14-year-old Tymoteusz Górski.

– This man had earlier tried to abduct some child, but that woman ran away with the child. Then he crossed the street and grabbed the seven-year-old. At first, I tried to talk to him so that he would let go of the child, because otherwise I would call the police. When I noticed that it was not working, I tried to pull the child away and save him. When passers-by saw this, they came and helped – says 14-year-old Tymoteusz Górski.

The second person to react was 17-year-old Kacper Warężak, a student at the Zespół Szkół Elektronicznych.

– A friend and I were walking to school. Near the primary school, we heard moaning and screaming. We decided to check what was happening. It turned out that the man was lying on the ground and holding the child in a tight embrace. The hold was so strong that the child probably vomited. He was crying and screaming. I ran over and – it seems stupid now – but I gave the man a really hard kick in the back because I wanted him to let go of the boy. Unfortunately, it did nothing. I tried to choke him somehow. I put my finger between his jaw. That did nothing either. He was so delirious that he did not care about anything as long as he could keep the child with him – recounts Kacper Warężak.

– If it had not been for the help of two men who ran over from the other side of the street, it would have lasted even longer. They forcibly pulled his arms apart and took the child out. One of them called the police, while the other held the attacker down with his foot. I stood nearby and kept watch so he would not get up. There were problems getting through to the police; the call would not connect. Eventually, it worked. A patrol that was nearby arrived. The attacker was asked by the man who was helping me, “What on earth are you doing, man?” But the man did not answer; he was only breathing heavily. In my opinion, this showed that something was not right with him – Kacper adds.

– Material like this is a good thing because it will show people that it is worth reacting. If I approach on my own and cannot manage, then obviously, when I approach, a second person will come, then a third and a fourth. As a group, you really can accomplish a lot – says Kacper.

The attacker was detained by the police and taken to a psychiatric hospital. There has been no contact with him so far. The prosecutor’s office is planning the first interrogation for Tuesday.

We are impressed by the teenagers’ conduct. Congratulations, and we are glad that in times of need, people can count on one another.
