On February 5, the duty officer at the Lubin District Police Headquarters received a report of a 69-year-old woman missing. Police officers who were on patrol at the time went to one of the localities in the Ścinawa municipality where, according to the report, the elderly woman had disappeared.
The missing woman’s husband immediately informed the officers that he had left his wife by a dirt road because she had fainted in the field, and he had gone home to call for help as he did not have a phone with him. When he returned to the place where he had left his wife, she was no longer there. He thought that she had felt better and returned home. He decided to go back to their home, but unfortunately, his wife was not there. He searched all the possible routes the woman might have taken, but was unable to find her. He then decided to notify the police.
During a detailed search of the area approximately 200 metres from the location indicated by the missing woman’s husband, the woman was found. She was unconscious and had no vital signs. Resuscitation was started and an ambulance was called. Before the ambulance reached the scene, the officers managed to restore the woman’s breathing through resuscitation. Unfortunately, because her body had become hypothermic, the 69-year-old repeatedly lost consciousness.
The ambulance arriving at the scene with medical personnel became stuck on the dirt road, so one of the officers drove the doctor and paramedic to the site in a police car. After examining the woman, the doctor determined that she had to be transported to the ambulance and taken to hospital immediately because she was in critical condition.
The officers, accompanied by the doctor, transported the unconscious woman to the ambulance in the police car. At that time, the fire service that had been called earlier arrived at the scene and managed to free the stuck ambulance. However, while carrying out this operation, the fire engine also became stuck in the muddy dirt road, blocking the ambulance’s exit route.
Fortunately, one of the residents of a nearby village was at the scene. Using a farm tractor, he pulled out the fire engine, enabling the ambulance to leave.
The hypothermic woman was taken to hospital, where she received further medical assistance.
