Officers from the Police Station in Chojnów identified and detained a man (a 34-year-old resident of the town) who was transporting cigarettes without Polish excise stamps in a passenger car. The officers seized a total of 1,000 packs of cigarettes in packaging belonging to a well-known tobacco company.
The 34-year-old was placed in police custody. It was estimated that if the illegal cigarettes had entered the market, the State Treasury could have lost approximately PLN 16,000.
The detainee faces up to three years in prison and severe financial penalties.
