Police officers detained a 20-year-old resident of Lubin. The man is suspected of stealing and attempting to steal steel pipes. Preliminary findings by the officers indicate that the losses suffered by the victim amount to approximately PLN 20,000.

During his free time, an officer from the criminal department of the Lubin police station was passing through an area where steel pipes are currently stored. There, he noticed a truck. Loading was under way. The whole situation seemed suspicious to him, so he notified the duty officer. The police officer sent a patrol from the prevention department to the scene. The criminal officer’s intuition was not mistaken: this was not an ordinary loading operation, but an attempted theft that was thwarted.

As the police established, the 20-year-old resident of Lubin had been preparing to commit the theft for a long time. In the first stage, he set up a fictitious company. It was intended to help him hire transport without arousing suspicion. Once the company was operating, he ordered a transport company to deliver steel pipes to a scrap-metal collection point. The officers’ findings in this case indicate that several days earlier, one shipment of stolen pipes had already arrived there.

The 20-year-old now faces up to five years in prison.
